One Word Kept Israel in the Wilderness

Eleven days. That is how long the walk from Mount Horeb to the border of Canaan takes.
Israel took forty years.
These were not strangers to God. The blood of the Passover lamb had covered their doors. They had walked through the Red Sea on dry ground and watched the Egyptian army sink behind them. These were redeemed and delivered people.
And still they wandered.
The Bible does not blame the distance, the desert, or Pharaoh. It names one word.
Unbelief is not ignorance. Israel knew the promise. God had told them the land was theirs. Unbelief is when you know what God said and you refuse to count it true.
At Kadesh Barnea, ten spies looked at the giants and gave their report.
God had already said the land was given. The spies said it could not be taken. Israel sided with the spies, and the desert became their home for a generation.
Salvation put them out of Egypt. Only faith could put them into Canaan. God had no interest in a forty-year detour. He wanted them in the land within days.
God never planned a forty-year detour. Unbelief did.
