We often think of evangelism as a set of arguments. We prepare points and memorize facts. We try to convince people to change their minds. But your countenance is your most powerful witness.

Consider the apostle Paul. He stood as a prisoner in Caesarea, bound with metal chains. He faced King Agrippa and Roman rulers who held power over his life. Yet Paul did not beg for mercy or show despair.

Instead, Paul told Agrippa:

"I think myself happy, King Agrippa, because today I shall answer for myself before you concerning all the things of which I am accused by the Jews," Acts 26:2 (NKJV)

Later, Paul told the assembly:

"I would to God that not only you, but also all who hear me today, might become both almost and altogether such as I am, except for these chains." Acts 26:29 (NKJV)

Paul was a prisoner, but he was the happiest man in the room. He wanted the free rulers to have what he had, minus the chains.

This is a radiant personality. Your joy does not depend on your physical comfort.

You can have physical beauty and still repel people with pride or anger. But a person filled with the peace of God attracts others. Your joy is a physical demonstration of the Gospel. When people see you remain steady in a storm, they want to know the source of your stability.

Your joy in difficult times is the most convincing argument for the reality of Jesus.
