The Golden Key to Retaining the Word

We live in an age of information overload. We listen to sermons and read devotionals every week. Yet we often struggle to remember what we learned. Most of what we hear slips away within days.
Hearing a sermon helps you retain about ten percent. Reading increases it to twenty percent. Memorizing might bring it to sixty percent. But there is a golden key that unlocks eighty to one hundred percent retention: biblical meditation.
Psalm 1 says that the person who meditates on the Word will prosper in everything they do:
The Hebrew word (hagah) הָגָה — "to mutter, speak, muse, ponder" is translated here as "meditates." It is not a silent clearing of the mind. It is the active speaking or muttering of God's promises to yourself throughout the day.
When you meditate, you move truth from your head to your heart. You ponder a verse and speak it aloud. You ask questions about what God is saying, and you let that truth settle into your thinking.
If you have questions you cannot answer, do not let what you do not know disturb what you do know. Focus on the clear promises of God. Speak them to yourself until they become your reality.
Reading the Word informs your mind, but meditating on the Word transforms your life.
