Zerubbabel stood in front of an unfinished temple.

The remnant had returned from captivity in Babylon to rebuild the house of God. Enemies came, and the people lost heart. The work stopped. Years passed, and the foundation sat exposed under the sun.

Then God sent a word through the prophet Zechariah.

"This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the LORD of hosts. 'Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone with shouts of "Grace, grace to it!"'" Zechariah 4:6-7 (NKJV)

God did not tell Zerubbabel to recruit more workers or negotiate with the opposition. He told him to shout one word at the mountain. The word Zechariah records is (chen) חֵן — "grace, favor." Shouted twice: "Grace, grace to it!"

Might could not finish that temple. Power could not finish it. Years of human effort had produced a stalled building site. Grace finished it.

Your mountain may not be a temple project. It may be a sickness, a diagnosis, a credit card debt, a fear that has settled in and will not leave. The instruction is the same. All the intellect of man and all the strength of man cannot remove it. God's grace can.

So do this. Name the mountain. Lift it up before the Lord and say, "Lord Jesus, not by might, not by power, but by Your Spirit. Grace, grace into this situation. In Jesus' name, amen."

Then take a step back. Do not pick the problem up again. If you take the worry back, you are saying you still have to handle it, that God did not do a good job. Leave it with Him. His grace has taken over.

Zerubbabel finished the temple. The mountain became a plain, and the capstone went up with shouts of grace.

You do not flatten mountains. You shout grace to them, and God does the flattening.
