Picture the last morning in Egypt.

Around two to three million people walk out of slavery in a single night. These are brick makers who had felt the whip. Among them are the elderly and small children. Yet there is not a single stretcher in the crowd. No one is carried.

"He also brought them out with silver and gold, and there was none feeble among His tribes." Psalm 105:37 (NKJV)

Not one feeble person out of millions.

What cured their bodies? What made a nation of slaves strong enough to march?

The answer is what happened the night before. Each family took a lamb. They put its blood on the doorposts and the lintel of the house. Then, inside the house, they ate the lamb.

"Then they shall eat the flesh on that night; roasted in fire, with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it." Exodus 12:8 (NKJV)

The blood on the outside protected them from judgment. The lamb on the inside did something else. By morning, an entire nation stood healthy and strong.

That first Passover was a picture, a shadow of a greater meal.

Centuries later, on the night He was betrayed, Jesus took bread.

"And when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, 'Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.'" 1 Corinthians 11:24 (NKJV)

Why did Jesus give His church a meal? He knew what kind of world we would live in. He knew there would be viruses, tumors, chronic conditions, and diseases with names not yet invented. So He left us His answer: His broken body.

Jesus said this Himself:

"I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world." John 6:51 (NKJV)

The word translated "life" in that verse is (zōē) ζωή — "life." When Scripture names eternal life, it uses the fuller phrase (zōē aiōnios) ζωὴ αἰώνιος — "eternal life." Here Jesus simply says zōē. He offers life itself: life for your body and health for your flesh.

So the pattern holds. The more you partake, the more life flows in your body and the stronger you become.

Does a piece of bread seem too small to fight a tumor? That is exactly how God works.

"But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty." 1 Corinthians 1:27 (NKJV)

God uses a piece of bread to bring a tumor to nothing. The broken body of Jesus is the greatest medicine you can ever take.

So the next time you hold the bread, do not rush. Remember Egypt. Remember the lamb. Then tell the Lord plainly: "Surely in Your body You bore away my diseases, my sicknesses, my pains. By Your stripes I am healed." Name the thing you believe Him for. Then eat.

"Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows... and by His stripes we are healed." Isaiah 53:4-5 (NKJV)

Not one Israelite was feeble the morning after the lamb. And the lamb they ate was only the shadow. You hold the substance.

Israel did not earn their strength that night. They ate it.
