Some believers wonder if Isaiah 53 speaks only of “spiritual” healing.
Others wonder if it covers only certain types of diseases.

Isaiah writes:

“Surely He has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows.”
Isaiah 53:4

The Hebrew words here matter:

“Griefs” — cholí חֳלִי — physical sickness, disease
“Sorrows” — mak’ob מַכְאֹב — physical pain, affliction

They are medical words in the Hebrew language — used throughout the Old Testament to describe real, physical diseases and bodily suffering.

Matthew understood this clearly.
He quoted Isaiah 53 directly after Jesus healed the sick:

“He Himself took our infirmities
and bore our sicknesses.”
Matthew 8:17

Matthew didn’t use Isaiah to explain forgiveness.
He used Isaiah to explain healing of the body.

That means Isaiah 53 is not symbolic.
It is literal.

Jesus carried every sickness

because He bore what the Hebrew text literally calls sickness.

Not categories.
Not a list.
Not certain types.
