Defeating Depression Through the Word

A lack of hope affects the physical body and the mind. When you lose hope, you wake up tired. You feel a sense of despondency. You look at your work, your marriage, and your family, and you see only bleakness.
This state of mind is often the result of what we consume. If you fill your mind with negative news reports and worldly predictions, you will feel depressed. The remedy is regular contact with the Word of God.
"For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope."Romans 15:4 (NKJV)
Jesus said that we need the Word of God daily.
"But He answered and said, 'It is written, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."'"Matthew 4:4 (NKJV)
You do not eat physical food only once a week. You eat every day to sustain your physical body. In the same way, you need daily exposure to the Scriptures to sustain your mind and spirit.
When you read the Bible, you do not just gain information. You receive comfort and patience. The Scriptures change your perspective. They show you that God is in control and that He has a plan to deliver you. If you feel morose or anxious about the future, open the Bible. Read it until your perspective shifts.
You cannot sustain today's mind on last Sunday's sermon.
