Enoch walked with God for three hundred years. His walk was not a vague feeling. It began with a specific revelation.

When Enoch was sixty-five years old, he had a son. God told him to name the boy Methuselah.

"Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years..." Genesis 5:21-22 (NKJV)

The name Methuselah carries a prophetic warning. It means "when he dies, it will come." The "it" was the flood—the judgment of God on a corrupt world.

Imagine the daily life of Enoch's family. Every time the boy caught a cold, the family watched him closely. Every time he scraped his knee, they guarded his life. They knew that his death would release the floodwaters of judgment.

This prophecy changed Enoch. It caused him to walk closely with God. He understood the gravity of the times.

But look at how long Methuselah lived. He lived for 969 years. He is the longest-living man in human history.

This fact reveals the character of God. God had to execute justice on sin. If He did not punish evil, the world would destroy itself. But God did not rush the judgment. He delayed it by keeping Methuselah alive longer than anyone else.

"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)

For nearly a thousand years, God waited. Every year that Methuselah lived was another year of grace. It was an invitation for humanity to turn back to God.

God does not delight in judgment. His heart is love. He extends the days of mercy so that people have time to respond to His goodness.

Today, you might feel that God is slow to act. But His delay is not neglect. It is His patience.

God delays His judgment because He desires to extend His mercy.
