The Voice Inside You That Isn’t You

Sometimes a thought rises from so deep inside you that you know you didn’t invent it.
A whisper. A nudge.
“There must be more.”
It shows up in quiet moments—after a win, after a loss, after a normal Tuesday.
It’s not ambition speaking.
It’s not dissatisfaction.
It’s the Spirit of God inside you calling you upward.
Because our Heavenly Father is an abundant God. He is the God of more than enough (Ephesians 3:20).
So when your heart says “There must be more,” it’s echoing the Holy Spirit who gently pulls you toward the life you were created for— a life of purpose.
And interestingly, even science now confirms what Scripture has been teaching for ages:
People with a strong sense of purpose simply live longer.
A 14-year study of more than 6,000 adults found that individuals with a stronger sense of life purpose had significantly lower mortality across all age groups—young, middle-aged, and older adults alike.
Here’s the study for those who want to explore it:

But purpose isn’t the same as success.
You can have a thriving career, beautiful children, a good marriage and still hear that prompting:
“There must be more.”
Even champions feel this.
Tom Brady, after multiple Super Bowl wins, once said, “It’s got to be more than this.”
Why?
Because human achievement can fill your shelves but not your soul.
Jesus defines purpose far more simply:
“This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
— John 17:3
Purpose is not the reward for a good life.
Purpose is the relationship with Jesus that becomes your life.
The abundant life Jesus promised (John 10:10) begins when you know Him—truly know Him—not as an idea, but as the Source of meaning, identity, and destiny.
Paul puts it plainly:
“All things… were created through Him and for Him.”
— Colossians 1:16
Everything begins with Christ.
Everything finds purpose in Christ.
And everything in your heart that speaks “more” is the Spirit pointing you back to Him.
