The Purpose of Biblical Prosperity

Many people feel uneasy when they hear the word prosperity. They associate it with greed or superficial teaching. Because of this fear, they limit God's promises to the spiritual domain. They believe God wants them to prosper spiritually, but they remain uncertain about physical health and financial needs.
The Apostle John wrote a clear prayer for the believers he loved.
John did not limit prosperity to the soul. He prayed that the believers would prosper in "all things" and "be in health." The Greek word (euodoo) εὐοδόω — "to have a prosperous journey, to succeed" is translated as "prosper." John used this word to describe a complete success that touches every area of life.
We see this same word, (euodoo) εὐοδόω — "to have a prosperous journey, to succeed", used by the Apostle Paul in his instructions about financial giving.
Here, prosperity refers to material resources. God does not want you to lack the basic necessities of life. He wants you to have enough to support your family and to help those in need.
True biblical prosperity is not about hoarding wealth. God is against greed and the love of money. The Bible warns that the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. To break the grip of greed, God established tithing and giving.
We prosper so that we can be a channel of blessing. You cannot feed the hungry if your own cupboard is empty. You cannot support missionaries or help the poor if you lack resources. For example, when a church helps feed children in the slums of the Philippines, it requires physical resources like food and transportation.
Physical health is also a vital part of this promise. God put gifts and a calling inside you before you were born. You need a strong, healthy body to fulfill that calling. Sickness limits your ability to work and care for your family. When you pray for health, you are not asking for a selfish luxury. You are asking for physical strength to complete the work God assigned to you on earth.
Your soul already prospers because you are in Christ. You are righteous in Him. God wants your physical health and your material provision to align with that spiritual reality. Do not pray with reservation. Ask God to prosper your work and your health so that you can represent His goodness to the world.
God prospers your life so that you can become a channel of His generosity to others.
