We are tripartite beings—spirit, soul, and body. This mirrors the ancient tabernacle: the outer court (the body), the holy place (the soul), and the Holy of Holies (the spirit).

Most of our lives are lived in the first two. We focus on what we feel in our bodies or what we process in our minds. But when you pray in tongues, you are operating from the Holy of Holies—your spirit man.

“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.” Jude 1:20

Why does Jude call it "most holy"? Because it comes from the most holy place. When you pray in the Spirit, you bypass the limitations of your intellect. Your mind might be "unfruitful" because it doesn't understand the sounds, but your spirit is in direct communication with God.

“For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.” 1 Corinthians 14:14

This gift isn't about "getting emotional." It is about letting the river flow from the sanctuary of your innermost being. It is the "rest and refreshing" that recharges your spirit when your mind is tired. It is the language of your deepest self, meeting the Spirit of God in the place where you are one with Him.

The mind is a wonderful tool, but the spirit is the proper seat of authority.
