The Gospel Hidden in Genesis 5

Genesis 5 looks like a dry list of names and numbers. It records ten generations from Adam to Noah. Most readers skim this chapter to reach the story of the flood.
But God hid a message in this genealogy.
In Hebrew (ʿivrit) עִבְרִית — "Hebrew", names carry literal meanings. When you list the names of these ten fathers in chronological order, their meanings form a complete sentence.
Let us look at the names and their translations:
First is Adam. The name (ʾādām) אָדָם — "man" means "man."
Second is Seth. The name (šēt) שֵׁת — "appointed" means "appointed."
Third is Enosh. The name (ʾĕnôš) אֱנוֹשׁ — "mortal" means "mortal" or "frail."
Fourth is Kenan. The name (qênān) קֵינָן — "sorrow" means "sorrow."
Fifth is Mahalalel. The name (mahalalʾēl) מַהֲלַלְאֵל — "the blessed God" means "the blessed God."
Sixth is Jared. The name (yered) יֶרֶד — "shall come down" means "shall come down."
Seventh is Enoch. The name (ḥănôk) חֲנוֹךְ — "teaching" means "teaching."
Eighth is Methuselah. The name (mətûšelaḥ) מְתוּשֶׁלַח — "his death shall bring" means "his death shall bring."
Ninth is Lamech. The name (lemek) לֶמֶךְ — "powerful" means "powerful."
Tenth is Noah. The name (nōaḥ) נֹחַ — "rest" means "rest."
Now, read the meanings of the names in order:
"Man is appointed mortal sorrow, but the blessed God shall come down teaching. His death shall bring powerful rest."
This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, written thousands of years before Jesus was born.
God did not leave humanity in sorrow. He planned our rescue from the beginning. He sent His Son, the blessed God, to live among us and teach us. Jesus died on the cross to pay our debt, and His death brought us true rest.
This message is not an accident. It is a deliberate design. God placed the story of redemption in the very names of the first generations. Even in a list of genealogies, God was thinking of you.
The entire Bible points to the work of Jesus, even in the names of the generations before the flood.
