The Anchor of the Soul

When a ship is in a harbor and a storm approaches, the captain drops the anchor. The anchor is heavy. It disappears into the dark water. You can’t see it. But once it hooks into the seabed, the ship is safe. The waves may toss the vessel, but it will not drift away.
Your soul needs an anchor. The Bible says we have a hope that enters "behind the veil."
Here is the stunning picture: You are the ship, floating in the uncertainty of time. Jesus is the Anchor, secured in the certainty of eternity.
He is our Forerunner. In ancient culture, a forerunner ran ahead to announce that the King was coming. His presence in the palace guaranteed the arrival of the one behind him. Jesus has already entered the Holy of Holies. He is already there. And because He is there, you are tethered to that reality.
You may feel the storm right now. You may feel the sway of bad news. But you will not be lost. You are hooked into heaven.
You are stable here because you are anchored there.
