Many believers live their lives as if they are camping at the foot of the wrong mountain.

The Bible contrasts two spiritual locations: Mount Sinai and Mount Zion.

Mount Sinai is where God gave the law. It is a place of thunder and trembling. It was so terrifying that even Moses, the friend of God, was shaken.

And so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I am exceedingly afraid and trembling.” Hebrews 12:21

At Sinai, there is no mention of angels rejoicing or the assembly of saints. It is a place of demand and judgment.

But you have moved.

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels. Hebrews 12:22

God has moved the mountains, yet many of us are still mentally camped at Sinai, waiting for the lightning to strike. We live in fear of judgment when we have been invited into the city of celebration.

You are not at the mountain that burns. You are at the mountain that welcomes.
