We often think of complaining as just a bad habit. But the Hebrew language reveals it is actually a trap.

The Hebrew word for "complain" is: (Lun) לוּן — "to spend the night, to lodge, to remain."

When you complain about your situation, you are literally pitching a tent in it. You are deciding to "spend the night" in the very place you want to leave. You complain; you remain.

The Israelites complained in the wilderness, and they stayed in the wilderness. They broke the hedge of protection, and the enemy came in.

If you want to get out of your situation, you have to change your language. Praise is the vehicle that moves you forward. Complaining is the anchor that holds you back.

“Do all things without complaining and disputing...” Philippians 2:14

If you don't want to stay there, stop complaining about being there.
