A cynic examines a beautiful room and points out the dust.

The Book of Jeremiah contrasts two types of people. The cursed man is like a dry shrub in the desert.

"For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited."Jeremiah 17:6 (NKJV)

Notice the specific tragedy of the cursed man. Good arrives, but he fails to see it. He has a healthy family, but he searches for their faults. He possesses a safe home, but he complains about the layout. He lives completely blind to the good in front of him.

The blessed man operates differently. Jeremiah states that the blessed man resembles a tree planted by the waters. When heat arrives, the blessed man does not notice the temperature. The heat represents stress, pressure, and danger. The blessed man faces the exact same heat as the cursed man. But his focus remains anchored to the water. He stays too busy with gratitude to panic over the temperature.

You find exactly what you train your eyes to see.
