In our world, we often confuse volume with value and force with effectiveness. We think that to change a situation, we need more muscle. But there is a profound difference between power and authority.

Think of a policeman standing in the middle of a busy intersection. He might be small in stature, perhaps even "puny" by some standards. He doesn't have the physical strength to stop a ten-ton truck. Yet, when he raises his hand, that massive vehicle comes to a halt.

He doesn't stop the truck with his own strength. He stops it with authority.

In the Greek, this is (Exousia) ἐξουσία — "authority, delegated power." It is the right to act. The truck has power, but the policeman has the government of the land standing behind him.

Before Jesus returned to the Father, He didn't just give us a set of rules; He gave us His standing. He said:

“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore...” Matthew 28:18-19

When you face a "truck" in your life—be it fear, sickness, or a heavy heart—you don't have to be stronger than the problem. You simply have to know who stands behind you. Your authority isn't based on your grip; it’s based on His name.

The mistake isn't being small; the mistake is forgetting to use the authority you've been given.

Power struggles with the weight of the world, but authority simply speaks to it.
